My Journey as a Mother and Advocate for a Greener Future...

Nature's beauty is worth protecting..

I live in Dhaka, Bangladesh, one of the most crowded cities in the world. Every day, I see new buildings, roads, and construction projects being built around me. While development is important, I also see something else happening that makes me very sad: the number of trees is decreasing every year.

When I was younger, there were more green spaces and more trees around many neighborhoods. Trees gave us shade during hot days, helped clean the air, and made the environment feel alive. Today, many of those trees are gone. They have been cut down to make room for roads, buildings, and other urban projects.

As a mother, this change worries me deeply.

am the mother of children, and like every parent, I want them to grow up in a healthy and safe environment. But every year, Dhaka seems to become hotter. The heat during summer feels stronger than before. Sometimes it becomes difficult to stay outside for long periods because of the extreme temperature and pollution.

One of the biggest reasons for this is the loss of trees. Trees provide oxygen, absorb carbon dioxide, and help keep cities cooler. When trees disappear, the air becomes more polluted, and temperatures continue to rise. We are already seeing the effects in our daily lives.

Many people think climate change is something distant that only affects other countries. For me, climate change is something I can see and feel every day. I see it in the intense heat, in the polluted air, and in the lack of green spaces where children can play safely.

Whenever I travel through different parts of Dhaka, I notice construction everywhere. New buildings continue to rise, but very few trees are planted to replace the ones that were cut down. Sometimes I look at an area that once had beautiful trees and feel a sense of loss when I see only concrete standing there now.

This situation affects more than the environment. It affects people's health and quality of life. Clean air is becoming harder to find. Many people suffer from respiratory problems, and children often have fewer opportunities to connect with nature.

As women, we often carry the responsibility of caring for our families. We worry about the health of our children, the safety of our homes, and the future of our communities. Because of this, women are often among the first to notice environmental changes and their impact on daily life.

I believe women have an important role in protecting our planet. Even small actions can make a difference. Teaching children about nature, reducing waste, planting trees, and raising awareness in our communities are all meaningful steps.

In my own family, I try to teach my children to respect nature. I talk to them about why trees are important and why we should care for the environment. I want them to understand that the Earth is not something separate from us. It is our home, and we all have a responsibility to protect it.

Sometimes I feel frustrated when I see healthy trees being cut down. I wonder what kind of city we are creating if we continue to remove the very things that help us breathe and survive. Development should not mean destroying nature. We need a balance between progress and environmental protection.

Despite my concerns, I still have hope.

I find hope in the young people who are speaking up about climate action. I find hope in community members who organize tree-planting activities and environmental campaigns. I find hope in parents who are teaching their children to care for the Earth.

I also believe that awareness is growing. More people are beginning to understand that environmental protection is not a luxury. It is a necessity. Without healthy ecosystems, clean air, and green spaces, our cities will become increasingly difficult places to live.

My dream is to see a greener Dhaka in the future. I want to see more trees planted along roads, around schools, and in neighborhoods. I want children to have parks where they can play under the shade of trees. I want future generations to enjoy cleaner air and a healthier environment than what we are experiencing today.

The environmental challenges we face can sometimes feel overwhelming. There are moments when it seems that the problems are too large for one person to solve. But I remind myself that change often begins with small actions and ordinary people.

Every tree planted matters. Every conversation about climate awareness matters. Every effort to protect nature matters.

As a mother, I am fighting for a future where my children and all children can breathe clean air, enjoy green spaces, and live in a healthier world. As a woman, I want to use my voice to speak for the environment and encourage others to do the same.

The Earth is giving us clear warnings through rising temperatures, pollution, and the loss of natural spaces. We must listen before it is too late.

I may not be a scientist or a policymaker, but I am a mother who cares deeply about the future. And that is why I will continue to speak up, raise awareness, and hold onto hope for a greener and more sustainable world.

Protecting our planet is not only about saving trees. It is about protecting our health, our communities, and the future of the next generation. That future is worth fighting for.
