Funbi a Girl with confidence, when everything around her speaks otherwise

I met Funbi when she was a secondary school student during one of our outreach programmes to a public secondary school in a semi-urban community in Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria.

She came from a very humble background, but I saw something special in her—a determination and potential that could not be ignored. Despite the challenges she faced, she rem

ained eager to learn and willing to grow.

In 2023, I invited her to speak as a panellist at one of our events to inspire other girls. Her story and passion to speak up for young women encouraged many people.

After leaving secondary school, Funbi faced several setbacks. She spent three years writing external examinations before she finally gained admission into a higher institution to study Sociology. Through mentorship, encouragement, and the support of kind-hearted people, she refused to give up.

Today, I am delighted to celebrate that Funbi is now a university graduate.

Along the way, she also received free training in event planning and catering through our organisation. She now has both an academic qualification and a practical skill that can help her build a sustainable future.

However, her journey is not over.

Funbi is eager to work and become financially independent, but she lacks the resources to get started. She needs basic catering equipment, a small starter pack, and, if possible, a modest workspace where she can begin serving clients and growing her business.

I have mentored Funbi for the past eight years, and I can confidently say that she is hardworking, trustworthy, resilient, and committed to making the most of every opportunity she receives.
