I’ve been thinking a lot about struggle lately. Life doesn’t come easy. Living in poverty is hard—mentally, emotionally, and physically. You feel the weight of every bill, every expectation, every setback. The stress eats at you, and sometimes it feels like there’s no way out.
Then there’s the other kind of hard: chasing success. Building a career, starting a business, or levelling up your life takes relentless effort, sacrifice, and patience. The hours are long, the failures frequent, and the self-doubt can be overwhelming. But here’s the thing: this hard is different. It stretches you, shapes you, and eventually rewards you in ways poverty never could.
I’ve learned that life will always demand hard work, hard choices, hard decisions. We can’t escape struggle—it’s part of being alive. But we can choose which hard we take on.
For me, choosing the hard of growth over the hard of stagnation has been a game-changer for my mental health. It’s about reframing stress not as a threat but as a signal: I’m on the path to something bigger, something worth the discomfort. It’s about resilience—the inner voice that reminds me I can handle it, even when everything feels heavy.
Here’s the mental health truth millennials often overlook: avoiding struggle doesn’t protect you from stress—it just postpones it. Facing the hard of building, learning, and improving keeps anxiety from becoming a permanent companion. It trains your mind to tolerate discomfort while holding onto hope. It teaches patience, grit, and self-compassion.
So today, I choose the hard that leads to growth, even when it’s scary. I remind myself that discomfort is temporary, but the payoff—freedom, confidence, impact—is lasting.
Which hard are you choosing? The one that keeps you stuck or the one that sets you free?
